Saturday, August 24th marked the launching of Yap's largest traditional sailing canoe in Gachpar, Yap. Yap Traditional Navigation Society writes, "Master Carver and also Chief of Maap, Bruno Tharngan, were the ones who constructed the canoe along with the help of his students and some of the community members in Gachpar... Yap Traditional Navigation Society’s purpose is to ensure that the traditional navigation and canoe building practices are promoted and preserved. This was a community project to build a canoe for the selected village and/or municipality."
My friend Bruce was at the launching and lost two of his cameras when the canoe capsized. Luckily, there was no damage or harm caused to the passengers, crew or canoe. I can't say the same for Bruce's cameras.
